Bruce Peninsula Ontario Guide

As a real estate agent who specializes in Bruce Peninsula, let me be your guide to what Bruce Peninsula Ontario has to offer as a neighbourhood to finding homes for sale in the area.

The Bruce Peninsula, which juts between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, begins at Sauble Beach and continues up to Tobermory at the northernmost tip. The Bruce Peninsula (or the Saugeen Peninsula, as the Ojibway call it) was home to the Chippewas of Saugeen Ojibway Territory for thousands of years. Today, people from the First Nations live at the Cape Croker reserve just north of Wiarton on the shores of Georgian Bay.

Part of the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve, the Bruce Peninsula is a scenic wonderland. Its spectacular cliffs, caves, rare ferns and flowers and sparkling clear waters make the area a natural draw for tourists from around the world.

Parks

There are two National Parks, eight Ontario Parks and four Federation of Ontario Naturalists Parks located on the Bruce Peninsula, literally surrounding you with nature. The rugged cliffs of the Bruce Peninsula National Park are dotted with thousand year old cedar trees overlooking the icy clear waters of Georgian Bay while the waters at Fathom Five National Marine Park are haunted by the shipwrecks of 22 schooners, barges and steamers, making it the scuba diving capital of Canada.

Trails

The Bruce Trail begins at Tobermory and winds its way around the Niagara Escarpment from there. Although the trail is almost eight hundred kilometers in total length, the most spectacular views can be found on the peninsula, considered the best hiking in Southern Ontario.

Flowers

Besides being a hiker’s paradise, the Bruce Peninsula is also a floral wonderland. An amazing 44 varieties of orchids can be found on here, including the endangered Eastern Prairie White-fringed Orchid. Other rare flowers and ferns can also be spotted, including red and white Trilliums, different coloured Violas, Marsh Marigolds and Indian Paintbrush.

Communities

There are four main communities on the Bruce Peninsula: Sauble Beach, Wiarton, Lion’s Head and Tobermory. Each area offers breath-taking natural beauty coupled with the comforts of living in town such as schools, shopping, entertainment and churches.

Scenery

Whether you’re looking for a vacation property with a view of Georgian Bay or a year round home where you can raise a family away from the stress of city life, the Bruce Peninsula offers stunning scenery right at your doorstep.
